The Billings Community Housing Resource Board (CHRB)

is a Billings based nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote Fair Housing opportunity through education and community outreach.

The CHRB provides speakers, trainers, and informational material on Fair Housing and Landlord Tenant "Rights and Responsibilities."

The free materials include a brochure, "Fair Housing Is Your Right," which answers general land-lord-tenant questions and is available in English and Spanish; the "Fair Housing Rights and Responsibilities" brochure, which answers general questions and those specific to disability and fair housing, and the Community Resource Guide.

CHRB winners of National Awards
for Community Organizing

The Billings Community Housing Resource Board (CHRB) was noted for their ongoing and innovative approaches to fighting housing discrimination by HUD by achieving national “BESTPractices” recognition in 1999 and 2000, the last two years the awards were given.

In part the awards recognize the consistency of Leadership and Community participation accomplished by the CHRB and their Project Director Russ Brown as they have brought together over 20 Billings based organizations to promote Fair Housing for 12 years.

The awards also recognized innovation in the CHRB community Education and Outreach efforts through specific projects such as:

  • The Community Guide to Affordable and Fair Housing” a desktop resource listing organizations and contacts who deal with Fair Housing within the community.

  • “Did You Know” columns in the City’s largest newspaper the Billings Gazette, answering the most frequently asked questions regarding Fair Housing  and Land lord/tenant issues.
  • The Fair Housing Partnership, an agreement signed by the Billings Association of REALTORS, CHRB, HUD and the City of Billings
